# Alibaba's Qwen releases real-time speech translator for 60 languages

Alibaba's Qwen team released Qwen3.8-LiveTranslate, a simultaneous interpretation model that cuts average lag from 2.8 to 2.3 seconds. It adds real-time speaker diarization with voice cloning and long-context disambiguation for names and terms, understands 60 languages, speaks 29, and is available now via API on Alibaba Cloud.

**Why it matters:** This is a separate, purpose-built release from Qwen's broader Qwen3.8-Omni-Flash model launched the same week, showing Alibaba shipping specialized production models alongside its general-purpose ones. Real-time translation with voice cloning at sub-2.5-second latency is a concrete step toward live cross-language conversation products that Western labs haven't shipped yet.
