# Google's Agent Compute Engine gives each agent its own micro-VM

*2026-10-22 · Source: [The Decoder](https://the-decoder.com/googles-agent-compute-engine-gives-every-gemini-agent-its-own-hardware-isolated-micro-virtual-machine/)*

Google introduced Agent Compute Engine, a runtime for AI agents in which each Gemini agent runs in its own hardware-isolated micro virtual machine. It also expanded governance tools for managing agents across cloud, hybrid and on-premises environments.

**Why it matters:** Hardware isolation per agent addresses the sandbox-escape and cross-agent risks raised by recent incidents like agents hijacking exposed models. It also shows cloud providers competing on agent infrastructure, not just models, in the same space as Vercel's durable harness and Modal's sandboxes.

**Topics:** products, security
