# Intel's Crescent Island inference accelerator ships as GPU D-Series

Intel will bring its Crescent Island AI inference accelerator to market as the GPU D-Series family. It offers 1.3 PFLOPS of FP8 compute and up to 480 GB of LPDDR5X memory with 1.5 TB/s of bandwidth.

**Why it matters:** Using large, cheaper LPDDR5X instead of HBM is a bet that inference is memory-capacity-bound and cost-sensitive, which could offer a lower-cost option for serving big models. With Nvidia reportedly prioritizing data center GPUs and supply tight, any credible alternative matters.
