# Mistral releases weights for trillion-parameter model aimed at cybersecurity

Mistral has published the weights of a new trillion-parameter model targeted at cybersecurity use. The company says open weights give organizations a degree of control over their cyber defenses that closed models cannot.

**Why it matters:** Open weights at this scale let defenders self-host and audit a frontier-class security model rather than send sensitive telemetry to a vendor. The same access lowers the bar for attackers to fine-tune it, so this tests whether open release of capable cyber models can be managed.
