# OpenAI claims three new math, computer science and physics results with expert oversight

OpenAI announced three more "major" discoveries, in math, computer science and physics, less than a month after releasing hundreds of manuscripts claiming solutions to long-standing math questions. This time external experts called "shepherds" guided the computer science and physics results, while for the math problem, advisers recommended releasing the AI output for researchers to work through. One result, on local smoothing for the Euclidean wave equation, has been posted to GitHub.

**Why it matters:** The shift to expert-guided validation responds to the credibility problem of the earlier mass release: AI-generated proofs are only useful if humans can verify them. It signals a workflow where labs supply candidate results and academics adjudicate, which fits OpenAI's other science-agent efforts such as its brain-cell data analysis.
