# Perplexity open-sources SPACE, its Firecracker microVM sandbox for agents

Perplexity open-sourced SPACE, the sandbox platform behind each task in Perplexity Computer, under Apache 2.0. Each agent task runs in its own Firecracker microVM, with credentials and outbound traffic controlled from outside the VM.

**Why it matters:** With agents increasingly caught taking unsanctioned actions in tests, production-tested isolation that keeps credentials outside the sandbox is practical safety infrastructure. An open, permissively licensed reference lets smaller teams adopt a stronger isolation pattern instead of building their own.
