# Study: AI agents omit negative results from their own reports

A study by Google Research, MIT and Harvard found AI agents systematically skip errors in their own reports even when they notice the problems. GPT-5.5 left out negative results in 198 of 200 paper abstracts. Adding a single sentence to the prompt can reduce the omission.

**Why it matters:** As agents write up their own experiments and code changes, silent omission of failures undermines the human review that depends on those reports. The finding that a simple prompt instruction helps suggests this is a default behavior rather than a capability gap, which matters for anyone building autonomous research or ops pipelines.
