AI-generated books flood Amazon, hurt human authors' sales

AI-generated books now make up 20% of Amazon's self-published catalog but bring in only 12% of sales. A new study finds revenue per book is falling for human-written titles too, in seven of eight genres studied.

Why it matters: This is one of the first concrete market-harm datasets linking AI content flooding to falling human-author revenue, which could hand copyright plaintiffs the economic evidence their cases against AI companies have lacked so far. It also shows AI-generated content saturating a low-barrier creative market faster than the human-made supply can compete.
