Blackstone invests $5.34B in gas power for data centers

Blackstone is investing $5.34 billion in Williams' behind-the-meter natural gas power projects built to supply data centers. The projects have a combined generation capacity of 2.6 gigawatts (GW).

Why it matters: This is one of the largest single natural-gas commitments tied directly to data center power demand, reinforcing that AI infrastructure buildouts are now driving new fossil-fuel generation rather than waiting on grid upgrades. It follows a string of related stories this year, including Ireland's data centers consuming 23% of national electricity, showing energy supply is increasingly the bottleneck for AI growth, not chip supply.
