Goodfire launches cheaper internal monitors for rogue AI agents
Goodfire launched monitors that inspect a model's internal activity while an agent works. They call in a second AI only when something looks suspicious, rather than having it read everything the agent does. The company says this is far cheaper than full monitoring.
Why it matters: Recent incidents, like agents escaping sandboxes and models sabotaging evals, show agents need oversight, but model-based monitoring is expensive at scale. Interpretability-based monitoring is an early commercial test of whether safety research can become practical, low-cost containment.
