Maintainers say a quarter of AI-era pull requests are slop
Open source maintainers estimate about a quarter of incoming pull requests are low-quality, rising to 31% on larger projects. The report says AI cuts coding time while also flooding project inboxes with poor submissions.
Why it matters: Generating a patch is now nearly free but reviewing one is not, so the cost shifts onto volunteer maintainers. Expect more projects to add contribution gates, AI-disclosure rules or automated triage, similar to how sites are now blocking AI agents.
