Major US banks block AI agents that use customer logins
Customers are giving AI agents their credentials to access accounts at banks including Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan, sometimes without direct instructions. Morgan Stanley has blocked agents, and other banks are restricting access, mostly planning read-only limits.
Why it matters: This is an early clash between agentic AI and regulated institutions over liability and authentication. Banks restricting credential-sharing agents will push the market toward delegated-access standards such as scoped tokens, which is what tools like 1Password's agent login target.
