OpenAI shares 722 AI-generated math manuscripts; mathematicians urge caution
OpenAI released hundreds of results on long-standing mathematical problems, including manuscripts and proofs. Researchers say validating the AI-produced work could take years, and some warn against sharing research with LLMs.
Why it matters: The bottleneck in AI-assisted mathematics is shifting from generating proofs to verifying them, a human-scale cost that grows with model output. Together with DeepMind's AlphaProof Nexus results, it raises questions about credit, review capacity and how journals handle machine-generated claims.
