Shopify lets shoppers connect any AI agent to buy from its catalog
Shopify will let shoppers configure their own AI agents to purchase products on their behalf, opening access to over a billion listings in its catalog, including items off Shopify storefronts. Previously agent access required a partnership, such as September's integration with Meta's Muse agent.
Why it matters: Moving from bilateral partnerships to open agent access makes Shopify's catalog infrastructure for agentic commerce rather than an exclusive deal. That shifts competition to the agents and their trust and payment controls, and gives merchants a new channel where product data quality, not storefront design, drives sales.
