xAI launches Grok Bot, an autonomous AI 'teammate' agent

xAI introduced Grok Bot, an always-on AI agent that can sign into a user's existing apps and accounts to complete multi-step work tasks on its own, reporting back only when finished or when approval is needed. The bots run in a shared cloud computer environment.

Why it matters: This puts xAI in direct competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT Work, Anthropic's Claude Cowork, and Microsoft's Copilot agents, making autonomous workplace agents a four-way race among the largest AI labs. Letting an agent log into real accounts and act independently also raises fresh security and credential-management questions enterprises will need to weigh before adopting it.
