Meta delays new business terms to Nov. 20 after AI scraping backlash
Meta postponed enforcement of its new business terms from October 30 to November 20. Publishers had raised concerns that the terms appeared to let Meta scrape news sites that use its platforms and use the material for AI training. Meta says it needs time to explain what is changing.
Why it matters: Publishers are now reading platform terms of service for AI-training rights, and the pushback shows consent through contract fine print is contested. The delay buys time but does not withdraw the terms, so the outcome will set a precedent for how platforms can claim training data from their partners.
