US daily AI usage more than doubled in six months

Surveys from Epoch AI and Ipsos found the share of US adults using AI almost daily rose from 8% to 19% between March and August 2026. Weekly-only usage fell from 17% to 10% over the same period, suggesting people who try AI tools are converging on daily use rather than occasional use.

Why it matters: This is one of the clearest signals yet that AI chatbots have crossed from novelty to habit for a meaningful share of the US population, which matters for everything from labor-market impact studies to how much scrutiny usage-driven incidents (like the hallucination that nearly triggered a US military strike) will attract going forward.
