Runway to let users steer AI video generation in real time
Runway is building a live-stream mode for AI video generation that responds to prompts as they're entered, instead of making users wait for a finished clip. It's built on GWM-1, Runway's frame-by-frame world model. The company says the same underlying technology could extend beyond creative tools into robotics and autonomous driving.
Why it matters: Real-time, steerable generation moves video models toward interactive simulation rather than one-shot content creation, the same 'world model' framing labs are pursuing for agents and robotics training. If frame-by-frame world models mature, the line between 'video generator' and 'physics simulator for training robots' gets thinner, which is why Runway is already pointing at autonomous driving as a use case.
